Nissan Motor India is strengthening its global presence by expanding the export operations of its popular compact SUV, the Nissan Magnite. As part of this initiative, the company has begun exporting over 10,000 left-hand drive (LHD) units of the Magnite from its manufacturing plant in Chennai. The first shipment of approximately 2,900 units was dispatched from Chennai’s Kamarajar Port in late January 2025, targeting key Latin American markets.
Nissan’s export expansion aligns with its “Make in India, Make for the World” strategy, positioning India as a critical hub for its global supply chain. The Magnite, manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance facility in Chennai, is now being exported to more than 65 international markets, including countries in South America, the Middle East, and Africa.
By leveraging India’s robust automotive manufacturing ecosystem, Nissan is enhancing its competitive edge and reinforcing the country’s significance in its global operations.
Since its debut in 2020, the Nissan Magnite has emerged as a success story for the brand, with over 150,000 units sold globally. Its affordability, premium features, and strong performance have contributed to its popularity. Nissan aims to build on this momentum by introducing hybrid and CNG variants of the Magnite, catering to evolving consumer preferences.
In addition to the Magnite, Nissan has ambitious plans for the Indian market. The company is gearing up to launch two new mid-size SUVs and an electric SUV by the end of the 2026 fiscal year, showcasing its long-term commitment to innovation and market expansion.
In July 2024, Nissan India achieved a major milestone by surpassing 1.1 million units in cumulative exports. This achievement underscores the brand’s dedication to producing world-class vehicles that meet international standards.
Looking ahead, Nissan plans to scale up its export operations significantly, with a goal of exporting 100,000 units annually by the fiscal year 2026. This aggressive expansion is part of a broader vision to solidify India’s position as a global manufacturing and export hub.
Nissan’s export expansion highlights the company’s strategic vision of leveraging India’s manufacturing expertise to serve international markets. With the Magnite’s growing success and a strong lineup of future models, Nissan is set to strengthen its presence both in India and across the globe. By focusing on innovation, market expansion, and sustainability, the automaker is paving the way for a stronger foothold in the competitive automotive industry.
