India’s car market in June 2025 saw some interesting shifts, with Maruti Suzuki retaining its crown as the top-selling brand—though not without some bumps along the road. Let’s dive into how the major carmakers fared last month, who’s gaining ground, and who’s slipping back.
Maruti Suzuki continued to be India’s best-selling car brand in June 2025, selling 1,18,906 units. However, it faced a 12.5% drop in sales compared to May and a 13.3% decline year-on-year (YoY).
Despite the dip, Maruti remains far ahead of the competition, being the only carmaker to cross the one-lakh sales mark for the month.
Mahindra secured the second spot with 47,306 units sold. Though its sales slipped nearly 10% from May, the brand saw a healthy 18.2% rise YoY—thanks largely to its popular SUV lineup.
Hyundai sold 44,024 cars in June 2025, recording a modest 0.4% increase over May. However, it couldn’t avoid a 12.1% decline YoY, causing its market share to shrink slightly.
Tata Motors dropped to fourth place, selling 37,083 units, a 10.8% decline MoM and a significant 14.8% drop YoY.
Toyota sold 26,453 cars, down by about 9.7% MoM but still managed a small 2.7% YoY increase.
Kia clocked 20,625 units, declining 7.6% MoM and 3.2% YoY, yet maintaining a stable market presence.
MG Motor sold 5,829 cars, showing robust 25.5% growth YoY despite a slight 7.5% monthly fall.
Skoda delivered 5,014 units, enjoying a massive 95.4% surge YoY, though it saw a sharp 25.6% MoM fall.
Honda saw some rebound, selling 4,618 units in June—a 16.9% rise MoM. However, it’s still down 3.9% YoY.
Citroen sold 610 units, which, while low in volume, was an impressive 83.2% jump MoM and 79.9% growth YoY.
Jeep sold just 262 units, facing small declines both monthly and yearly.
The Indian car market is still competitive, with SUVs leading the way for brands like Mahindra and Tata. It’ll be interesting to see if Maruti can bounce back and how newer players like Citroen grow from here.
