Toyota has officially unveiled the 2027 Toyota Highlander EV, marking a major milestone in the brand’s electrification journey. For the first time in its history, the Highlander transitions into a fully electric SUV, becoming Toyota’s first three-row battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the United States.
With up to 515 km of claimed range, all-wheel drive capability, and two battery pack options, the new Highlander EV blends family practicality with modern electric performance.
The 2027 Highlander EV will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, while battery modules will be produced at Toyota’s newly established facility in North Carolina. This makes it the first battery-electric Highlander to be manufactured in the U.S., reinforcing Toyota’s commitment to local EV production.
The new electric Highlander is built on a modified TNGA-K platform, specifically adapted to house larger battery packs while maintaining optimal cabin space and weight distribution.
Compared to its predecessor, the SUV is wider and features a longer wheelbase, while sitting slightly lower. This enhances interior space, road presence, and overall driving dynamics, giving the Highlander EV a more athletic stance.

The 2027 Toyota Highlander EV adopts Toyota’s latest “hammerhead” design language, seen in newer global models.
Design highlights include:
The overall look is sharper and more futuristic, aligning with Toyota’s evolving EV identity.
Inside, the Highlander EV focuses on space, digital integration, and premium appeal. The three-row layout comfortably accommodates up to seven passengers, making it ideal for families.
Cargo practicality remains strong. With the third row folded, cargo capacity expands to over 45 cubic feet, ensuring flexibility for long trips or daily utility needs.
